Microsoft reveals Xbox All Access subscription

Microsoft announced Xbox All Access today, a new plan that includes subscriptions to Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass, as well as Xbox One hardware, for a discounted monthly fee.

Xbox Live Gold is Microsoft's online services platform, which is required for multiplayer in games. You also get a handful of free games with a Gold subscription for $9.99 per month. Game Pass is a newer offer that also costs $9.99 per month. It includes a catalog of 100 games that you can download and play as much as you want on your console. They're mostly titles from at least a year or two ago, but there's some good stuff in there. You can also get 20% off purchases of any Game Pass titles to keep forever (games rotate on and off the list sort of like Netflix).

The Xbox One X bundle, which costs $35 a month for two years, is in line with the roughly $860 a person would normally pay for everything included. The Xbox One S bundle, priced $22 a month, is about a $130 cheaper than buying everything it includes. Of course, this back of the envelope math doesn't take into account future price drops for the hardware or the Xbox Live and Game Pass discounts that regularly pop up, but it still looks pretty good considering it's an interest-free way of buying the hardware today and paying for it years down the road.

The only catch seems to be that this is currently a limited time offer, "while supplies last". This likely means the company wants to test the waters a bit before committing to this for the long term, although it seems like a great way to provide access to the Xbox ecosystem and bring in some new customers.
