The U.S. government has published the results of its extensive testing of LightSquared's planned 4G LTE network. According to the report, the government found that the network caused interference with 75 percent of the GPS devices tested.

LightSquared has denied a the report, claiming that its contention was based on incomplete information.

"We are confident that a complete review of all the government data by respected industry experts will demonstrate that the overwhelming majority of devices tested exceeded the established standards and support LightSquared's network," said LightSquared executive VP Martin Harriman.

LightSquared has planned to build a $14 billion nationwide network that it would then resell to wholesale providers (the company says it has no interest in retail). It owns a chunk of spectrum that it plans to devote to the network, but that spectrum - in the area between 1525MHz and 1660.5MHz - is uncomfortably close to that used by many GPS devices.
