Apple will pay as much as $500 million to settle a lawsuit claiming the company deliberately slowed down certain iPhones in order to encourage customers to buy new ones. The settlement is yet to be approved by a judge on April 3. This will end a legal battle that has been going on for two years now. In December 2017, there were complaints from customers and technology analysts. The brand admitted that it was using software to slow down its older generation iPhones. At first, Apple said that this software should solve problems related to the use of Li-ion batteries, the slowdowns used to protect the components. But in the eyes of the complainants, Apple implemented this software to force its customers to switch faster to the latest versions of iPhone. Apple later apologized and offered battery replacements at reduced prices (28 dollars in January 2018). The proposed settlement agreement requires Apple to pay the owners of certain iPhone models $25 per affected device, totaling a minimum of $310 million and a maximum of $500 million, according to documents released on Friday in US District Court in San Jose, California. You can file a claim and expect to get some amount from Apple. The claim cover will any US-based owner of iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7Plus or SE that ran iOS 10.2.1 or above; it'll also cover owners of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus with iOS 11.2 before December 21, 2017.
