Apple sues small company over its pear logo

Apple has filed a trademark lawsuit against a tiny app maker over the use of a pear in its logo. Yes, not an apple, a pear. Prepear is at the heart of the legal objection. Developed by Super Healthy Kids, Prepear is a recipe plan, grocery list, and meal organizer mobile application on iOS and Android.

The Cupertino-based corporation claims that Prepear's emblem, which it described as "a minimalistic fruit style with a proper-angled leaf," confuses buyers into thinking that the app is affiliated with Apple. The logo "quickly calls to thoughts Apple's popular Apple Symbol and produces a very similar commercial effect," it stated.

Prepear has launched a change.org petition in an attempt to convince Apple to drop legal action as the process reaches the discovery phase, a particularly expensive part of the process.

The company has the backing of over 22,500 netizens who signed their petition in the first couple of days. Many of them argued that Apple couldn't own all the fruit shapes in the world and urged the corporation to stop being a bully.

"It is a very terrifying experience to be legally attacked by one of the largest companies in the world, even when we have clearly done nothing wrong, and we understand why most companies just give in and change their logos. We feel a moral obligation to take a stand against Apple's aggressive legal action against small businesses and fight for the right to keep our logo. We are defending ourselves against Apple not only to keep our logo but to send a message to big tech companies that bullying small businesses has consequences," said Prepear on the site.
