Apple refuses to allow Parler back onto the App Store

Parler, the controversial conservative social media app, was denied re-entry to Apple Inc.'s App Store recently after it was kicked off the platform in January.

Apple had originally kicked Parler out of the App Store in January, shortly after the riots at the U.S Capitol. Apple said at the time that the app needed to improve its content moderation and make a bigger effort to keep dangerous and hateful content off its platform. The company said the suspension would be in place "until we receive an update that is compliant with the App Store Review Guidelines and you have demonstrated your ability to effectively moderate and filter the dangerous and harmful content on your service."

Parler's guidelines ban threats, spam, and some other categories of content. However, the right-wing-friendly network's policies remain permissive compared to other social platforms, and its stated goal is that "removing users or user-provided content be kept to the absolute minimum."

Apple asked the social network to change its moderation practices. Apple said that Parler's new community guidelines, released when the service came back online Feb. 15, were insufficient to comply with the App Store rules.

"After having reviewed the new information, we do not believe these changes are sufficient to comply with App Store Review guidelines," Apple wrote to Parler's chief policy officer on Feb. 25, according to Bloomberg. "There is no place for hateful, racist, discriminatory content on the App Store."
