Apple today announced that it is making some updates to AirTags with the aim of cutting down on unwanted tracking. There are several changes that will be implemented in a multi-phase rollout. AirTags are meant to be paired with personal items that can be easily lost, like keys, a wallet, or a purse, but they've also been used to track individuals without their knowledge. What's more, recent reports found that modified AirTags and other similar tracking devices with safety features disabled were readily available for sale online. In the months since Apple's AirTags went on sale last spring, there have been stories of bad actors using the lost item tracker to stalk people. One of the most publicized incidents occured at the start of the year when model Brooks Nader said someone had placed an AirTag in her coat to track her movements for several hours. In an update published today, Apple said it would take additional steps to prevent incidents like that from happening. The company announced it will soon implement a series of updates to both AirTags and the Find My network, initially beginning with new privacy warnings, alerts and documentation. It's also "investigating" the introduction of other capabilities for a later release, including new precision finding tools and adjustments for AirTag alerts and sounds. Read more -here-
